Branding Photography for “That Face Place”

Amber, part of the welcoming committee of That Face Place

A few months back, I was approached by the female founders of That Face Place, to do some team headshots and branding photography for their cosmetic skin clinic practice, located at Palm Beach. After a few email exchanges discussing their goals with the shoot, part of which I discovered was to not just get team headshots but also to shoot consulting content within their newly renovated clinic. So I scheduled an in-person meeting with them, so I can mostly suss out the size and lighting within the clinic. It was a great opportunity to meet the client in person, and particularly helpful as they showed me several past shoots they had done, mostly pointing out what they did not like about their previous shoots. It was a good foundation to understand not only what they wanted out of the branding shoot, but most importantly, what they DID NOT want. Communication is key in every industry, even more so when tasked with the responsibility of capturing the visuals of someone else’s vision.

One complaint they had of their past shoots at their clinic, was how dull and dark the lighting was, as the previous photographers had all shot with available light. Before I even saw their clinic, this was my concern as well, that the space would be tight and no natural light, only ceiling light. I took a few videos of the spaces I’d be shooting, just on my phone, and it was great to see the space I had within the consultation rooms, and the angles I’d need to shoot from, that I decided on using my continuous lighting, as opposed to strobes.

Finally the day came and the client had decided upon hiring the natural light studio of Gold Coast Studios, Burleigh Heads and I brought one of my strobe softbox lights and had my continuous lights packed for later in the day when we’d shift the shoot to their clinic. In the studio, I rotated between my strobe set up for the individual headshots and then for the group shots, we used the moveable cyclorama with natural light mixed with some continuous lights for extra fill.

It was a full day shoot, with makeup and hair starting in the morning at the studio and 3 makeup artists on board to do hair and makeup on 7 beautiful women, so we’d have enough time during the hire of the space to shoot not only individual headshots, but also founder shots and various combinations of group shots in both their uniform scrubs and casual clothing. We had the studio for 4 hours and by midday we had wrapped up and all drove to That Face Place clinic to shoot content in their space. Just under 2 hours I had shot the reception, seating area with a patient waiting scenario, greeting scenarios, and then we shot consultation scenarios with three team members. The day went so smoothly, as we all had a clear plan to work to, as I had also drafted the Call Sheet/Mood Board that was sent out to everyone a week before the shoot. Besides communication, time management is another important skill when juggling a shoot of this size, with all the people involved.

There are so many photos, but I’ll share a few from the day, just to show what we got done.
